Studio Sunday

In The Studio

Despite the excruciating heat and laziness brought on by summer, I have managed a little time in the studio.  Painting will always be my first love but recently I’ve been toying with the idea of “mixed media’ing up” a piece of furniture.  As coincidence would have it, I found this beauty in my neighbors trash pile!  (Oh yes! Wenders went dumpster diving.)

Atop this old school microwave stand is some of the “media” I uesd to create this:

I am still debating on whether I wanted to sell this piece or not.  It is being put to good use as a bedside table for the time being.  Which is making me lean toward keeping it and making more more more!

p.s. If my neighbor just happens to be reading this, I really did knock on your door to ask if I could.  You didn’t answer so…well, you know the rest.

Other fabulous projects going on in the studio are all about photography.  Which is leading to many exciting adventures!  I LOVE capturing the happiest times and events in peoples lives.  I also LOVE LOVE getting paid for it too. Therefore, I occasionally take photographer gigs.  Now that Jude is getting older, is weaned and can be away from mommy for more than 5 seconds, I am hoping to take more. Currently, all proceeds are being filtered into the purchasing of more kick ass cameras and  camera equipment fund.  Please help an addict out and give me a shout for your next wedding, birthday, or exciting event!

Where to find the photographer of awesomeness…

The amazing Wenderflonia team (ok, my awesome Simon) is creating a separate website to exclusively feature my photography, sevices and prints.  Wenderflonia.com will be more about the blog and life as an artist in general with links to all the places to find me.  I am really excited about this venture and the branching of my Wenderflonia Empire….muahahahaha.

There are other aspects of photography that I am itching for more time to explore as well.  The Idea of incorporating photos and mixed media art has been someting I have experimented with lately.  Time and inspiration willing I hope to do more.

This is the latest of this type of work:  here and here

Love you, mean it,

Wenders

FLY

There is an art, or rather a knack to flying.  The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.

~Douglas Adams, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

Oh how true that is Mr Adams!  It seems lately I am on the cusp of something.  I feel it nagging and whispering at me.  I try to pay attention to what it is saying and more often than not, I feel like I am flying by the seat of my pants.  Right now my thoughts are so scattered.  Trying to get a creative business of the ground and keep my family grounded is confusing.  I am not sure what way is up these days.  I am mostly sure it is the lack of sleep causing it…..mostly.  I jut pray I don’t fly right into the light pole while trying to take off!! What is going on in the Land of Wenderflonia?…… TIME is fleeting!  Where is it going?!?  In order to get any blogging done, paintings painted or photos edited I have to stay up until 2am.  Now that Baby J is sleeping through the night I really should be taking advantage of the sleep time but It’s too delectable to have me time for a few hours. In other news, I had a few wonderful commission opportunities this past month.  One has been mailed off and was well received, one was personally delivered yesterday and the other needs to get it’s self in the mail asap.  I will be getting pictures up soon. YAY for working.  I really am digging the new style that is developing  because of it.

Love, Bird

A very small degree of hope is sufficient to cause the birth of love.
~Henri B. Stendhal

Everything is tied together.  Funny how that works. To have love without hope makes whatever one loves a little less meaningless.   This is my train of thought as I think about the journeys we travel throughout life.  As a newly revived in spirit artist, I find that hope does drive me in my creative life, but love is what steers me true.  Each of these feelings rely on each other to keep my dream alive.  But without a doubt, if there is not genuine love for what I am doing or creating then there would be no point.  When it is all put together then hopes are manifested into dreams, and a love for the dream creates flight.

My hope is that my dreams are recognized by the love that I have for my creative spirit.  In doing so I can fly.

err…..guess what tomorrow’s little birdie painting post will be?…….FLY!!! LOL

It is a new year, a new decade and so many things are going on.  I really didn’t bother with making resolutions this year.  It is definitely hard keeping up with all the new things falling into place, but everything is falling so well.  I didn’t want to muck it up with a lot of empty promises made to myself.  I will worry about getting into shape at the end of the year after I recover from the birth (always my standard resolution),  and I will continue to concentrate on building a business out of my art.  Slowly, but surely, I am winning this race.  Now, if I could just manage to post more and still get the dishes and laundry done.  I blame it totally on nesting.  Jude is due February 19th, and for weeks now I have been obsessed with cleaning baseboards and closets.  I have been wiped out and tired.  I’m painting, but not as much as I like and am finding getting into a set schedule very difficult.  I only anticipate it getting more hectic. That’s OK though, it is so exciting how much our lives are going to change this year, so I say bring it on.

Things that have been happening of late:

~Playing with ink.  I love it!  It adds a texture and dimension to my art that makes me sing.  I really love Tim Holtz’s line of alcohol based ink.

I love the texture and depth it adds to my pieces.  Trying to develop a consistent style is difficult when I have all these fun materials to play with.

~I’m also trying out a new venue for selling my art at etsy.com.  If you click the shop link on the home page it will take you to my store. or follow this link  http://www.etsy.com/shop/wenderflonia.

~BFS and I have been super busy gettign ready for or little Aquarian arrival.  It is less than 4 weeks now (Not panicking AT ALL!!!!).  We have been aranging and rearanging and preping and cleaning and painting.

Isn’t this fabulous!?  Super talented BFS painted this for our sweet baby boy. It will hang in the nursery……. err That is, once we get around to actually get the nursery decorated and set up.   Hopefully, I will be able to post a companion piece soon with an elephant and sun soon.

As hectic as things will be in the next few months, I hope to stay on track and post more.  Fingers crossed. Now I think I will take my turtle self to bed and see if I can get a few hours of sleep in.
