Awesome Mommy and Pic of the Day

Mommy Jennifer and her gorgeous baby girl, Bailey, came by for a visit, and I snapped this when they were playing.  This photo evokes such a deep love.   The connection between these two is so breathtakingly obvious.  You just cant beat this.

Being Loved

My other favorite shot of the day is of my curious niece Dakota.  She is a tiny ball of energy and wonder, who has little fear and a lot of gumption.   I am truly enjoying watching my niece grow and learn and can’t wait for her to give my brother hell!  Go Codex! GO!

Being Vulnerable

Goddess of Gardening Update

Ok! Maybe Goddess is a bit much!  But still……….

I included lots of pics in this blog because I just lurv clicking away at my flower babies. It’s all I can do at the moment, since the more I leave them alone, keep them watered and sunbathing the better they will be.

A few observations about my wee little seedlings :

  • Zinnias planted in first planting are way too leggy. I am not sure if it had to do with amount of sun exposure but I kept them in the same window as Zinnias planted in # 2 tray.
  • The fennel are not as strong grown indoors as they were when I started them outside last year. I’m going to put a fan on them for a few hours a day in order to develop some strength to their stalk. I’ll just have to keep an eye on the water. I don’t want them to dry out.
  • So far everything has sprouted beautifully

My mother, being a master gardener herself, brought a few store bought herbs because they were a steal…but can you see how jealous the plant babies are sitting next to them?! Total Performance anxiety; but I told them that size didn’t matter….it’s the ability to photosynthesize that gardeners look for. I think they feel better.

Grow herby babies! Grow! The purple basil looks good enough to eat already. I love to plant purple basil in my show beds for their deep color. It adds a beautiful contrast to the vibrant colors of spring blooms and bright greenery. Also, infusing your beds with specific herbs are a natural pest deterrent. Less chemicals and more smarts peoples. I plants herbs everywhere (outside and inside) The nature woman in me believes in the innate healing properties of herbs just by proximity alone.

These guys are reaching for the sun. I have to rotate my flats so everyone can get enough full sun. I seriously need a green house as big as a house. Currently, I house my seedling nursery/overwinter storage/plant hospital in the south facing utility room. There is a washing area and a huge window that allows for an abundance of light and protection. It’s a pretty smooth operation, but I’m greedy. I want more! I ran out of room for my overwintering facility in the Utility room, so a good portion of my non-winter hardy, containerized plants are in my bathroom. It is literally a jungle in there!

So what’s going on outside?

We’ve got pink buds! Peaches are all set for go. Please, Please, Please no freeze! Last years peaches were amazing. We still have a freezer full ready to go for cobblers and ice cream toppings! The apricot and plums have leaf nodules but since they are only a few yrs old and were planted last year, I’m not expecting a crop. The grapes are budding as are the Wisteria and roses. I am so excited to see the bees out and about and the Mud Finches back.  That means Spring is almost here. I won’t officially be excited until after Easter. Then I will let superstition pass and dig like a mad woman.

The sad aspect of gardening this year is the lack of a vegetable garden. I made the decision to not do a veggie garden this year, due to the fact that I will be moving during the critical summer gardening period. I love having a garden and have had one most of my life. So a good way to make me jealous is to talk about how good your tomatoes and onion sets are doing! I am still maintaining and caring for whatever is currently rooted in the ground, but will not be adding anything to this property. I am propagating my seeds for my new residence, family and friends, the buzz garden for the zoo, and plant sale.

Never fear, I have my perennials and annuals on order for April and my seeds are set and it looks like all the cutting back and hedging has done its job and I see more and more sprouts every day.

TwoLips pic of the day 03-04-09

Hmmmm… I wonder if I have an obsession with flowers. 🙂

So what is better than one TwoLip?……TU TwoLips!

I’m doing  pretty good  in not letting the camera pick my settings for me. No Auto for me! Therefore, lots and lots of practice is needed. So, today’s photo challenge was to play around with light sources.  Practicing with light was a very important lesson.  I experimented with natural light,  flash,  and some seriously powerful construction lamps.  I was totally pleased with the results and had a serious problem picking the day’s winner.

Obviously there are runners up!

Maybe it is just the subject matter, but today’s shots, in my opinion, turned out fantabulistikly,  and I so felt the passion.  I’m finding that the ol’ intuition is comming back as well……..maybe.

Adios Arty Art

It seems like it was a long day across the board for most people that I talked to today.  For me it was kind of a sad day.  I’ve been giving private Art Lessons at the Abilene Music and Art Studio for about 3 years now.  However, with today’s repressed economy and everyone’s busy schedule, it was getting increasingly more difficult to schedule classes.  So today marked the end of  Arty Art with Wenders.

At least we went out in style. We had cupcakes, and even made our own  frosting by using white frosting mix, food coloring  and out expert knowledge of color mixing.  Let’s just say it’s a good thing the carpet in the studio was red!  I usually do my classes in two or 3  sessions but since it was the last day, I let the parents bring the kids early, depending on when their lesson was, and we all played “What I learned in Mizz Wenders’ Class” quiz games.

Although it was becoming difficult and frustrating to scedule time  for these classes, I will dearly miss the time with my kiddos every week.  Hopefully, someday I will have the time and freedom to do Art Lessons again.  I especially feel it is important because the Texas Educational System has really failed our children in the creative arts areas.  Somebody has to teach our children how to have creative spirits!

And the Winner by a Nose!

This is such a great picture and I can’t even claim it as my own.  However, since it was shot using my camera, I’m posting it on my site.  Way to capture Tasha’s loving adoration for you Simon!  I just love her expression.  This is definitely the clear winner.

Following the theme of nosy perspectives, I added a few runners-up from a set that I took today.  I had a great time clicking away at my noisy, nosy cows, and I think they actually had a better time posing for the camera than I had taking the photographs!  It seemed that the lower or higher I positioned myself, the more curious they became.  Clearly to them, the camera was a magic food dispensing device.  Never-the-less, I found their expressions absolutely hysterical, yet very majestic in their Cowishness.  +10 for the Moo Cows!

Piccture of the Day 03-02-09

daisies-002

Well, I’m  trying to post a “Photo of the Day” but maybe I should change it to Photo’S’ of the Day.  I just can’t seem to narrow it down to one favorite daily shot. I wanted a super-awesome new background to my blog .  Therefore, today’s challenge was to get a good photograph of my birthday Orchid (mission accomplished!).

It was definitely a ‘favorite flower’ kind of day.  My mother brought me my favorite daisies for the kitchen table, and I just had to shoot them! I especially  love taking closeups of plants and  flowers. Although, macro shots of plants are absolutely a joy to me, some may find the subject tiresome. If that is the case.  then go peruse flickr for neato stop actions and some over-photo shopped goodies to satisfy your pretentiousness.  Otherwise, enjoy my photos of the day and let me know what you like or don’t like (besides the subject matter).  I need input people! Wenders talks to imaginary readers cuz she haz none 🙁 .

Here are a few more of my favorites of the day.

New Look

Thanks to the greatest ‘puter man in the whole world, the site now has it’s very own custom look. As promised, I took some fun photos of the orchid, and some were turned into Wenderflonia.com‘s very own theme. I will no longer have to peruse the free themes!

Pic of the Day and Other Stuff

It  was, as always, a fantastic weekend in Anna.  Yesterday was filled with a baby shower, catching up with old college friends, and a few fantastic belated birthday presents (one of which was a beautiful Phaleonopsis orchid that will absolutely be the subject of many well composed future photos!).  Today, we may head up to Haltom City to have a mouthwatering lunch with my aunt and uncle before we head home.  For now, I am content to sit around and be lazy for another hour or two.  So without further ado:

The Picture Of the Day

(which, of course, may not come everyday so enjoy)

my-tree

I Love this tree.  I imagine that it must be a home for faeries and wood nymphs.  Parker seems to think that it is a birdie truck stop tree, because it always seem to be filled with birds on the go.  Either way it is a tree full of life.
